USA wins coveted position as Country of Honour at Salão do Estudante in Brazil

BMI is proud to announce that the United States of America will be the Country of Honour for the upcoming Salão do Estudante, Brazil’s best-known international student recruitment fair since 1994.

From March 16th till March 30th, BMI’s popular events will take place in eight of Brazil’s top cities, bringing more than 40,000 students and families face to face with over 125 institutions from 22 countries. Amidst all of the excitement, the USA will be spotlighted as a premier study destination for Brazilians, with enhanced exposure for American institutions that exhibit within the official U.S. Pavilion.

Joining them in the Pavilion in each of the eight cities are several government-backed organisations such as EducationUSA, U.S. Commercial Services and the U.S. Mission – all of whom officially support the Salão do Estudante fairs. In each city, EducationUSA, together with the consulate, will also present seminars to prospective students about studying in the USA and how to manage the visa process.

As the Country of Honour, the USA will have the highest possible profile during the event and there will be considerable benefits and discounted rates for participating U.S. institutions. For example:

  • Support from EducationUSA and the U.S. Mission during the event.
  • Participation in the featured, specially decorated U.S. Pavilion.
  • Specific pre-fair marketing about the U.S. and each individual participating institution.
  • Option to participate with a 4 metre stand or a generously discounted 6 metre stand.
  • Fully furnished exhibition stand including table, chairs, electricity and lights.
  • Free use of the BMI Smart Scanner App to capture all student data and leads in real time.
  • Access to specially discounted hotel rates at the official hotels in each city.

Multiple opportunities to connect with internationally-minded students

Salão do Estudante is part of a series of integrated recruitment opportunities held throughout the months of March and September across various cities in Brazil, the fifth largest market in the world for students seeking higher education. International education providers can further extend their time in the region by adding on nearby events such as Expo Estudiante in Mexico, March 7-12 and Chile, Colombia and Peru March 23 – April 3. Additional recruitment opportunities in Brazil before the Salão student fairs include:

Brazilians continue to choose the US for study abroad

“We’re excited to be able to award this opportunity to institutions in the USA, particularly now, at a time when American education providers see the importance of proactively communicating to foreign students that they are welcome in the USA and that the country should remain at the top of their list when considering where to study,” explained Rupert Merrick, Director at BMI.

The USA remains the world’s leading study destination and has always been a very popular destination for Brazilian students. In the 2017/18 academic year, there were 14,620 Brazilians studying in the USA (up 11.7% on the previous year), according to the latest Open Doors report. Moreover, the August 2018 SEVIS by the Numbers report indicated that Brazil is the second largest source country for Intensive English Programmes (IEPs) in the USA as well as the tenth largest source country for US-based universities.
